Miss Marshall (Y3)

We hope you have had a fantastic Christmas break and are looking forward to the new term!

Our class book this half-term is called Race to the Frozen North by Catherine Johnson

When orphan Matthew Henson ran away from his violent stepmother to find a new life in the big city, no one could have predicted that he would become the first man to reach the North Pole. A little luck and a lot of hard work led to a life of adventure on the high seas and in the Arctic, but back home in America his achievements were ignored due to the colour of his skin.

We will follow the real-life journey of Matthew Henson on his adventure to the North Pole. Our book will see us creating vivid setting descriptions of the Arctic before writing our own letter home about the wonderful adventures we have been on.

In maths, we will be focussing on multiplication and division. We will learn how to multiply and divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number, as well as practice our 3s, 4s and 8s times tables. Make sure you’re practicing at home on Times Tables Rockstars!

Our science topic will see us investigating rocks and soils. We will also look at fossils and enter the brilliant world of palaeontology!

Our geography topic is Cool Climates and Brilliant Biomes. We will begin by looking at Europe before expanding our knowledge of the world by researching and comparing different world climate zones and biomes.

In PE, we will be doing gymnastics, starting with floor work before moving on to the apparatus. Our PE day has changed to a Monday, so please make sure you come to school in correct kit on this day.
