Castle Hills Primary Academy

Mr Thompson (Y6)

Welcome back 6T! We hope that you have had a memorable Christmas break and feel refreshed for new challenges ahead. Over the coming term, Year 6 will be focusing on all things geography, including comparing continents; looking at the differences between human and physical geography and using resources such as atlases and the internet to understand the world we live in. We will have a close look into the past, when we learn about the Tudors, who were a Welsh-English royal dynasty who ruled England and Wales from 1485 until 1603.

Our class novel is ‘Pig Heart Boy’ which is written by Malorie Blackman. The story details a thirteen-year-old boy who needs a heart transplant and all the moral and ethical issues that it raises. A story that grips children from start to finish.

Our second novel is ‘Malala’ which is a remarkable story of a teenage girl who risked her life for the right to go to school.

In math’s, children will focus on fractions, decimals, percentages and perimeter. They will look closely as multiplying and diving numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. This term will be a pivotal point in their education as they focus their attention towards summer but it will be an enjoyable experience.

Remember to complete your homework on time, record at least five reads, arrive in the correct PE kit and have an attendance of 96% or above to be ‘In It To Win It’!
